LINOCUT ALPHABET

In 2017 I created a DIN A4 lino cut alphabet. Lino cut is a printmaking technique, in which a sheet of linoleum is used for a relief surface. A design is cut into the linoleum surface with a sharp knife, V-shaped chisel or gouge, with the raised (uncarved) areas representing a reversal (mirror image) of the parts to show printed. The linoleum sheet is inked with a roller, and then impressed onto paper or fabric. I printed several versions of the alphabet you can find in my shop.

Here are some impressions of the making of process:

This is the sketch.
I had to transfer the sketch mirror-inverted.
Cutting the letters was really hard work.
This is the final linocut. The next step was to color the alphabet and print it on paper.
I used a roller and linoprint color to color the plate.
Afterwards I put the paper on the plate.
And used a big roller to actually create the print.
I carefully lifted the paper.
And this is the final result.
